The Sick Rose

The Sick Rose by William Blake

I have the flu. It is inconvenient and it sucks. All I want is a wine, smoke and a shag, but I can't even get a nice warm hot chocolate and a cuddle because I am DISEASED. It's ginger and garlic tea for me (which, I will admit, has grown on me). Please make my flu go away.

The Weeks: Highs and Lows

Monday 15th March - Sunday 21st March 2010

HIGHLIGHTS

1. Finding a Sailor Dress for $5 at Maylands. Ever since I saw Cassie Ainsworth looking ever-so-adorable in a sailor top (see above picture) on an episode of Skins (series one) well over two years ago, I convinced myself I NEEDED a sailor top or dress of my own. For two years I Etsy and Ebay searched the shit out of sailor dresses yet never managed to find one in my size/price range, etc. This sailor dress of mine is a childrens size 12 yet it somehow manages to fit me very well. Amazing. If I had a working camera I would post pictures on here but unfortunately I don't anymore since James Redman dropped and broke my digital camera at my 20th birthday party last year. So kids, you're just going to have to use your imaginations.

2. Actually having an awesome night at Tramplifier! I'm not joking! Crazy, huh? The longest and hardest I've danced in yonks! I went to see Melbourne's Eddy Current Supression Ring on Friday and it was the sickest gig I've seen all month! So good! Really loud, hard, energetic rock and roll. If you dig, I suggest you go see these guys. They were opened by one of my favourite local bands Pond who are always so much fun to watch and dance to. There was a pretty huge crowd but everyone was kind of awesome for a change, it wasn't full of too many dirty Tramplifier regulars. I also ran into this girl Evie who I take the same theatre unit as at uni. We ended up hanging together in the crowd and managed to score a spot at the front right of the stage. We had bonding moments when we went and sculled goon in an alleyway with Sally and when I accidentally groped one of her boobies. Evie is a mad bitch. Hooray for me for making a new awesome friend.

2. Scoring the opportunity to review RTR FM's In The Pines for Spaceship News.

LOWLIGHTS

1.Actress/Model Emma Booth (above) was a rude and impatient bitch at Tramplifier. She asked me if i had a lighter for a cigarette and as I was grabbing a lighter out of my bag, she stole my almost finished cigarette out of my hand and let her cigarette my mine, without my permission. Ruuude. However, this Emma Booth incident was also quite hilar as a friend good friend of mine, who had drunkenly made out with Ms Booth a few weeks ago and has been bragging about it ever since, was standing behind her pointing at her and making obscene sexual gestures from behind.

2.Having to work in Midland and Joondalup, two places that can be kind of scary and are also far away. On the plus side, I got paid and got to hang out with Walsh who is always super nice.

3.Being charged $9.50 for a gin at Tramplifier. $9.50!?

Katharine Hepburn

I love this woman. What a total badass. I need to get myself a copy of her autobiography!

"I’m a madly irritating person, and I irritated people for years. Anything definite is irritating — and stimulating"

"Life is to be lived. If you have to support yourself, you had bloody well better find some way that is going to be interesting. And you don’t do that by sitting around wondering about yourself."

"Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get - only with what you are expecting to give - which is everything."

"Once a crowd chased me for an autograph. "Beat it", I said, "go sit on a tack!" "We made you", they said. "Like hell you did", I told them."

"I wear my sort of clothes to save me the trouble of deciding which clothes to wear."

"I remember as a child going around with "Votes For Women" balloons. I learnt early what it is to be snubbed for a good cause."

"If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun"
[on playing Mary Queen of Scots] "I was probably the worst choice in the world for the part. I can’t stand Mary of Scotland. I think she was an absolute ass. I thought Elizabeth was absolutely right to have her condemned to death."

"I don’t care what is written about me so long as it isn’t true."

"Only the really plain people know about love - the very fascinating ones try so hard to create an impression that they soon exhaust their talents".

"Life is full of censorship. I can't spit in your eye."

"Fred gave Ginger class, and Ginger gave Fred sex."

"Enemies are so stimulating."

And finally my favourite
Barbara Walters: "Do you ever wear a skirt, by the way?"
Kate: "I have one."
Barbara Walters: "You have one."
Kate: I"I'll wear it to your funeral."

Narwhals 2

Yesterday I posted some images of my new favourite animal, the Narwhal. Here are some interesting, informative, amusing, beautiful, funny and/or just plain bizarre youtube videos that are Narwhal-related. Enjoy.

Mad Girl's Love Song

By Sylvia Plath

Jonathan Reid Sevigny

This guy creates the most amazing drawings! I find them so inspiring. Even this sketch of his blows my mind. It makes me want to start drawing again. It's depressing how much I've neglected all my creative projects for so long now. I need to get back into it again and soon!

The Narwhal

My new favourite animal

Genius!

I usually hate these things but this one is sooooo good!

Everyone should wear their sunglasses at night this weekend as a symbol of mourning. RIP Dude.

Tony Stonem

Next time my parents go out I am inviting Tony Stonem from Skins over and he is going to bone me hard.

Ew Ew Ew Ew!

What the fuck is this dress? It looks like a fucking used tampon with random bits of lace and studs. Gross!

Like A Hurricane (Neil Young)

Once I thought I saw you
in a crowded hazy bar,
Dancing on the light
from star to star.
Far across the moonbeam
I know that's who you are,
I saw your brown eyes
turning once to fire.

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer
where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
I'm getting blown away.

I am just a dreamer,
but you are just a dream,
You could have been
anyone to me.
Before that moment
you touched my lips
That perfect feeling
when time just slips
Away between us
on our foggy trip.

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer
where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
I'm getting blown away.

You are just a dreamer,
and I am just a dream.
You could have been
anyone to me.
Before that moment
you touched my lips
That perfect feeling
when time just slips
Away between us
on our foggy trip.

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer
where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
I'm getting blown away.

Surprising Discovery #1

Squeeze a little juice from a fresh grapefruit into a cup of green tea. It actually tastes and smells like apple pie. Delicious. Best discovery of the day, probably the week and perhaps even the month.

Brian Jonestown Massacre

My review of the Brian Jonestown Massacre gig for Spaceship news. Read it.
